Pre-monsoon showers hit the Capital, almost as if planned by the organisers, just as those observing International Yoga Day were rolling up their mats after a workout. The welcome showers sent those who chose to stay back at Rajpath running for shelter. Had the rain come an hour earlier, the showcase event would have been washed out.

Those who started events in parks and gardens a little late, were upset with yoga mats being used as umbrellas. Some, however, continued and had a bit of fun in the rain.

The change in weather led to a drop in temperature as the city had been experiencing above-average temperatures for the past couple of days.

The meteorological office informed that unlike the occasional evening showers, Sunday’s 6.8 mm of rain was in fact a “pre-monsoon” shower. The maximum temperature was recorded four notches below the season’s average at 34.4 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature settled at 28.5 degrees Celsius. The humidity on the higher side hovered at 92 per cent while on the lower side it was 59 per cent. The forecast for Monday reads generally cloudy sky with thunderstorm and rain expected in certain areas. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.
