The members of Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, a conglomeration of city’s various right-wing organisations, on Tuesday said that they would wait for the district administration to implement a complete ban on namaz in open spaces this coming Friday before taking it upon themselves to forcibly ensure it.
‘Will take up the task’
Holding a press conference, former Wazirabad sarpanch Sube Singh Bohra said that Samiti would allow the administration a week’s time to ensure ban on namaz in open spaces in the city. “If the administration fails to do, we would then mobilise people across Gurugram going from village to village and enforce the ban the next Friday,” said Mr. Bohra.
He, however, added that he had nothing against his Muslim brethren, but a majority of those offering prayers on roads were Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.
Rejecting the suggestion to allot land for offering namaz or build more mosques for the purpose, Vijay Yadav of Bharat Bachcho Yatra argued that the number of mosques in the city were enough for the local population, but most of the Muslims in the city were outsiders.
“We fear that political parties might help the outsiders to procure voter identity cards for narrow political gains. We also raised the issue in a meeting with the district administration on Monday and demanded that it should not be allowed to happen,” said Mr. Yadav.
