With the arrest of an engineer and a cab driver, a team of Uttar Pradesh STF and CBI on Friday claimed to have solved the sensational murder of a techie, Ankit Chauhan (27), who was shot in his SUV on a busy road in Sector 76, Noida, in April 2015.
The main accused, Shashank Jadon (25), is a graduate from Delhi Technological University and a resident of Pratap Vihar, while his accomplice Manoj Kumar is a cab driver who lived in Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad. The third accused Pankaj died due to multiple organ failure four months ago.
The probe team said it was a case of murder for car robbery and ruled out the involvement of other suspects.
Tattoo clue
The police confirmed that Shashank had been identified from a tattoo on his left hand which had been spotted by an eyewitness. Shashank had secured 96% in Class XII. After getting a B.Tech degree in 2014, he entered into real estate business and opened an office in Sector 63, Noida. Initially, he earned handsome amount, but later suffered financial losses. He then came into contact with Pankaj, who borrowed ₹4 lakh from him. Pankaj failed to repay the money, but gave Shashak the idea to loot an SUV and sell it to one of his friends Satpal. The trio followed Ankit’s SUV in Shashank’s car and shot him.
CBI probe
The case was later transferred to the CBI which sought the help of the UP STF in the probe. According to the police, Shashank had manipulated his car’s registration number to evade surveillance.
