At a press conference held on Thursday, East Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh blamed the Delhi government for the ongoing safai karamchari strike. The workers have been on strike since September 12.

He said that the Corporation was unable to pay its employees and workers because the Delhi government had not yet released funds.

At a meeting with union leaders on Wednesday, Mr. Singh had assured that salaries of safai karamcharis will be given priority.

Appealing to workers to help make the ongoing “Swachhata hi Seva” campaign a success, the Mayor urged them to give up the strike.
