The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has been directed by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here to pay Rs. 2.22 lakh to a 45-year-old woman who sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a rashly-driven truck owned by the civic body.

The tribunal, presided over by Kiran Bansal, passed the order on the complaint of East Delhi resident Noorjahan, who was hit by the truck in 2010.

“Award is passed directing respondent no 2 (municipal body) to pay a sum of Rs. 2,22,400 to the petitioner,” the tribunal said, while holding the civic body liable to pay the compensation.

It also noted that Noorjahan suffered from permanent disability of 20 per cent in the right lower limb because of the accident.

As per the complaint, on July 12, 2010, while she was crossing a road in the Dilshad Garden area, the truck hit her.

She fell down on the road and sustained grievous injuries, the complaint said.

She claimed before the court that she used to work as a maid and earn Rs. 4,500 a month. — PTI
