ECA trials at DU begin today

June 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

With all the buzz around high cut-off marks for admission in Delhi University this year, students who have applied under the ECA (Extra Curricular Activities)/Sports category can still hope for a chance as the trials for admission will begin on June 18.

With five per cent of seats reserved per subject for ECA and Sports applicants according to standard DU policy, students are looking to capitalise on their talents and procure a seat. Most of the colleges have stipulated the weighting distributed between certificates and trials as 25% and 75% respectively.

Applicants were required to submit their certificates and awards acquired in the last three years while applying under the ECA category. While most of the colleges have standard categories like Music (Indian and Western), Dance, Debate, and Dramatics, some new additions like Fine Arts and Photography have also been included in Kirori Mal, Miranda House, and Sri Venkateswara College. Most of the ECA and Sports trials are starting from the last week of June, and will continue well into mid-July.

In Miranda House alone, more than 400 forms have been submitted, said the ECA convener. Following suit since last year, Hindu College will not be conducting ECA admissions this year as well. However, its Sports trials start from June 23.

Colleges in South Campus have also started preparations, with Sri Venkateswara College scheduling its ECA trials, which start on June 22 . Jesus and Mary College holds its ECA trials on June 18 and 19, meanwhile introducing Creative Writing as a category as well. Kamala Nehru College has scheduled its ECA trials on June 29 and 30.

However, going by the past, ECA admissions have never been free of tribulations, with dates and timings of auditions clashing in several colleges, leaving aspirants in a fix.
