In an effort to decentralise the cultural landscape of the Capital, the Delhi government is organising a three-day cultural festival ‘Mayur Utsav-2018’.
Starting from December 14, the festival will be spread over different venues in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Phase II and Phase III.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday that the Sahitya Kala Parisad, a cultural wing of the Delhi government, will organise the festival.
“I am aware that east Delhi has a large number of art and music lovers, so it has been my dream to give east Delhi its own cultural festival. Art and music is for everyone, it touches all, then why restrict cultural events to only select parts of Delhi?” said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Art shaping society
He added that the Delhi government was serious about the value and role of art in shaping society.
In a statement, the Delhi government said that the aim of the festival was to create platforms in different parts of Delhi that would provide an opportunity to citizens to witness eminent artists and genres of arts.
On the first day of the festival, people will be able to enjoy a performance by fusion band Indian Ocean; a puppet show by Puran Bhatt from Rajasthan; and a folkdance by Shyam Arts.
The second evening will see ‘Hasya Kavi Sammelan’ with poets and comedians like Shyam Rangeela; and a folk performance by the Delhi Panchavadya Trust. The festival will end with a performance by singer Kailash Kher.
