Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday said that the university has begun a trial run of e-rickshaws to facilitate residents’ movement across campus and that all the roads leading to and around the hostels and residence area, have also been repaired and freshly paved to facilitate smooth traffic and parking.

The Dean of Students said that the university has also been working to improve facilities for its residents, specially for students and has added a capacity of 500 residents by constructing new dormitories. The university added that it has constituted a committee to monitor cleanliness in all its hostels and dormitories.

Routine checks

To ensure the safety of students, the university said that it has been conducting routine as well as surprise checks to ensure that there are no unauthorised guests living in the hostels. The university lashed out at certain sections of the JNU community for criticising such checks and calling them “raids”.

The university has also started a green-drive in which more than 600 sapplings have been planted with the help of the NSS and JNU alumni. To ensure that these sapplings are cared for, most of them have been adopted by residents of the campus.
