People in Delhi and the National Capital Region got the much-needed respite from the scorching heat on Saturday when a dust storm followed by rain brought the temperature down.
While people came out of their houses to enjoy the rain in the evening, dust storm wreaked havoc in some parts of the city.
There were complaints of fallen trees and water logging on the streets. However, the municipal corporations said the situation was not that bad.
Officials said the control rooms of the North and South civic bodies got one complaint each of a fallen tree. In addition, the North corporation said a roof collapsed in Burari and a house collapsed in Shakurpur.
Four persons, including two children, were injured in the Capital due to the storm. In the Hauz Khas area, a policeman was injured after a tree fell on him.
He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
In another incident, a man was severely injured when a pole fell upon him in North Delhi. On Kasturba Gandhi Marg, a truck fell on an auto injuring two children travelling in it.
Meanwhile, the fire department received two calls of roof collapse each from Brahmapuri and Ganga Vihar in Northeast Delhi. No causalities were reported in the incidents.
While the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.7 degrees Celsius, the minimum settled at 29 degrees. High velocity winds blowing at 84 kmph were followed by rain which was recorded at 4.8 mm.
The humidity was recorded at 82 per cent.
According to weather officials, both minimum and maximum temperatures were one degree more than the normal for this time of the year.
One day ago, the weather department had predicted overcast conditions for Saturday. Rain is expected in the Capital on Sunday as well and the temperature is likely to hover between 38 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius.
