Two persons have been arrested for allegedly duping people of several lakh through an online shopping company — Kart4all —, the police said on Sunday.

DCP (Cyber Cell) Anyesh Roy said the arrested — Lalit Prasad and Pradeep Kumar — are both 25 years old.

A complaint was received at CyPAD stating that the victim was cheated by a group of persons on the pretext of free gifts as a promotional offer for an online shopping portal. “The caller said the victim had won a free gift, which can be either a Sony LED TV or an iPhone or a Dell laptop. The victim was asked to purchase any product worth more than ₹550 from the website to avail the gift. The victim then purchased a bedsheet worth ₹649 and chose a Dell laptop as the gift,” Mr. Roy said.

Following this, the victim claimed to have received various calls on different occasions from the fraudsters and they demanded ₹44,600 in name of GST, insurance charges, security deposit.

“The fraudsters were calling the victims from their in-house call-center in Tughlaqabad Extension. They have cheated hundreds of victims of over ₹70 lakh,” Mr. Roy added.
