Candidates looking to get admission in a Delhi University college this year have something to cheer about.
The university is going big on placements this year onwards, with the number of students who have been placed having gone up as compared to last year.
The number of students who have been placed this year with various companies through the Central Placement Cell is more than 1,500, nearly 300 to 400 more than last year. Further, the placement drive was extended by an entire month this year.
Deputy Dean Student’s Welfare, Rakesh Kumar, who is in-charge of placements said: “We have gone big with placements this year. The number of companies that hired our students has also gone up in comparison to previous years. We are expecting the number to increase next year.”
“We have plans to go big with placements in coming years because companies are showing keen interest in students. I would urge all the students who are joining the university this year to register themselves with the placement cell. The registrations usually open in September each year,” Dr. Kumar added.
Some colleges like Shri Ram College of Commerce, Hansraj College, Miranda House, Hindu College and Sri Venkateshwara College, among others, have their own placement cells.
However, those studying in colleges with their own placement cells can also register with the university’s centralised cell.
“If a student is applying for placements through the Central Placement cell, it does not matter which college he/she comes from. We do not disclose the name of a student’s college and let the companies decided the student’s worth on the basis of merit alone,” he said.
The maximum number of students who were placed were from technical courses like B.Tech and B.Sc Computer Sciences.
They were offered jobs with companies like Wipro and Genpact.
Students with a chemistry background, meanwhile, were placed with PerkinElmer, a company that produces analytical instruments, genetic testing and diagnostic tools, medical imaging components, software, instruments, and consumables for multiple end markets.
Students who pursued English (Honors) were placed at companies like Class Teacher and Teacher’s City, which generate education-related content.
