The Noida police have registered a case against a dog owner after his pet allegedly attacked a woman in Mahagun Moderne in Sector 78 here.

A senior police officer said the incident happened when the victim was taking a walk inside the society.

Written complaint

“She sustained injuries in the attack. The victim claimed that the dog owner misbehaved with her when she protested against the attack,” the officer said, adding that the victim went home and told her family about the incident.

The victim later submitted a written complaint at the police station concerned.

“Acting on the complaint, we booked the dog owner. We are probing the case from all angles,” the officer said.

While the police await the woman’s medical report, they have also sought CCTV camera footage for probe.

Stating that cases of dogs attacks had gone up in Noida, the police said it has asked the residents’ welfare associations and the Noida Authority to chalk out a mechanism to deal with the menace.

Past case

Officers said some security guards of a high-rise in Sector 74 here are accused of beating a stray dog to death on directions of four residents. Locals had claimed that there were several cases of dog attacks in the housing society in the past.

After an animal rights’ group approached the police, a first information report was lodged against the builder, the four residents and the security agency under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals Act, 1960.
