Doctors killed in accident

Their two-wheeler allegedly rammed a truck at night

Two doctors working at a private hospital, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), were killed in an accident after their two-wheeler allegedly rammed a truck parked on the wrong side of the road in Bawana on Thursday night.

Investigators are yet to determine if the two-wheeler hit the truck after losing control or failing to see the truck in the dark as the indicators were switched off. The police have also not ruled out the possibility of a hit-and-run.

PCR call

CMO Rajesh Rajput, 34, and junior resident doctor Gufran, 30, worked at Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in Bawana and stayed in staff quarters on campus.

The police control room received a call around 9.55 p.m., nearly an hour after the duo had left the hospital on the two-wheeler.

“A passerby spotted them lying injured near Bengali Chowk. Their vehicle was lying next to them. A police team reached the spot and took them to the hospital they worked in. Dr. Gufran was declared brought dead while Dr. Rajput was transferred to Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where he too was declared dead,” added a senior police officer.

Truck driver absconding

Lack of eyewitness or CCTV cameras has left investigators puzzled. The truck driver is absconding but the owner has been traced. The driver has been booked for causing death by negligence.

Victims wore helmets

Both victims were wearing helmets and prima facie did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, said another police officer. Their bodies were sent to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem and later handed over to their families.

Dr. Rajput got married two years ago and hailed from Madhya Pradesh, while Dr. Gufran was unmarried and was from Bihar.
