Delhi L-G Anil Baijal flags off a fleet of 100 e-rickshaws called SmartE to boost the last mile connectivity service in Dwarka for metro commuters in New Delhi on Friday.

In a bid to improve last-mile connectivity in Dwarka, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday said it had rolled out e-rickshaw services at eight stations in Dwarka.

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal flagged off a fleet of 100 e-rickshaws called SmartE, from Dwarka Sector 10 metro station to boost last-mile connectivity.

“The fares have been kept very nominal at a base price of ₹10 for the first two km and ₹five for every subsequent km. The commuters can also book vehicles through the SmartE app and pay digitally. The Delhi Metro is also working with SmartE to enable usage of metro smart cards for fare payment in these electric vehicles” said the official.

A DMRC official said that the e-rickshaws, that are GPS enabled, will ply within three to four km around the metro stations.

“DMRC has not only contributed to excellence in transportation but it also stands out for its environment-friendly initiatives. This eco-friendly initiative of introducing e-rickshaws at the metro stations will enable the commuters to prefer non-polluting public transport modes over personal vehicles.”

While 100 charging stations have been set up, DMRC officials said that the fleet will be increased to 200 subsequently. The facility will be available at Dwarka, Dwarka Sectors 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9 and 8 metro stations from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
