A team of the Delhi Police took Jitendra Singh Tomar, who resigned as Delhi Law Minister on Tuesday after being arrested for allegedly holding fake degrees, to Faizabad and conducted investigations at Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University and Saket Postgraduate College on Wednesday.
The former Minister, who is in four-day police remand, faces charges of cheating and fraud in obtaining his law degree.
The team was in Faizabad for the whole day and left for Munger in Bihar by an evening train along with Mr. Tomar. Led by ACP (Sarojini Nagar) S.P. Tyagi, it reached Faizabad via Lucknow and was on the Avadh University campus shortly after noon.
Three university officials were present when the police checked the records. The team is said to have gathered documents which date back to 1987, 1988 and 1989.
From Avadh University, the team went to Saket college, where a similar exercise was conducted.
The former Law Minister was present when the documents were examined. Earlier, the team and Mr. Tomar reached Lucknow by the New Delhi-Lucknow AC Express around 8 a.m.
He was initially to be taken by road to Faizabad, 123 km from Lucknow, but the programme was changed following the presence of a large number of Aam Aadmi Party supporters at the railway station.
Later, they left for Faizabad by the Delhi-Malda Town Farakka Express. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Tomar accused the Union government of not allowing the Arvind Kejriwal government to function.
