Bringing together Delhi’s urban and rural traditions, the city government on Thursday announced a two-day urban folk festival that will take place on Saturday and Sunday in Shahpur Jat village in south Delhi.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Greater Kailash Saurabh Bharadwaj, in whose constituency Shahpur Jat is located, said Delhi has 369 villages, many of which are now urbanised.

In order to celebrate the urban and rural cultures, the Art, Cultural and Languages Department and the Tourism Department will be holding the two-day festival.

Events to include

The performances will include Haryanvi folk music and dance, nagara (drum) artistes as well as a rock band competition. On Sunday, a fashion show by designers who work outside Shahpur Jat will be held, followed by a concert by Shibani Chauhan.

Mr. Bharadwaj said the government plans to make the festival an annual feature of Delhi’s cultural calendar.
