The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has undertaken a survey in the 675 slum clusters of Delhi to ascertain the demand for houses for the poor.
The survey has covered 1.25 lakh households in roughly 270 slum clusters. The households will be issued survey certificates by the Delhi government.
This is a mandatory step towards rehabilitation of slum clusters under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana (MMAY), formerly known as the Delhi Slum & Jhuggi Jhopri Rehabilitation & Relocation Policy, 2015.
Survey certificates
“The Delhi government will issue survey certificates to each family living in jhuggi clusters that will have the location, jhuggi number along with photograph of the family. This survey will help the government in estimating the demand for construction of houses for the poor in the coming years,” said Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain.
The app-based digital survey captures information about households in slum clusters, along with photographs of their personal identification certificates like Aadhaar card, voter ID, electricity bill, among others and photos of the family members.
“This is to ascertain the number of years the family has been residing in the slum cluster and the number of persons in each household. This will help in preventing unfair claims during the allotment process,” an official statement said.
The survey is being undertaken by an external agency under the supervision of DUSIB officials. The app-based survey stores all the information on an online database along with geo coordinates which can be accessed and verified online by the officials. This will help in minimising cases of error and fraudulent data captured by surveyors, officials said
Rehabilitation
“Based on the eligibility criteria determined in the policy, pucca flats will be allotted to the families residing in slum clusters. The primary focus of the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana 2015 is to rehabilitate the slum clusters on in-situ mode or within a radius of 5 km of the existing slum so that there is a minimum interruption in the lives of people who are rehabilitated,” the statement said.
