Delhi’s Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the fire at St Sebastian’s Church at Dilshad Garden which the Christian community alleged was “deliberate”.

“A special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the fire at St Sebastian’s Church at Dilshad Garden has been set up. The team will be led by a Joint Commissioner of police,” said a police source.

Mr. Jung met a delegation led by Delhi Archbishop Anil Couto in the morning at Rajniwas and assured them that an inquiry has been instituted to probe the incident.

Yesterday, the Archbishop also called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to urgently order a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Police has registered an FIR against unknown persons for causing the fire with malicious intent on the complaint of the church’s parish priest Father Anthony Francis.
