A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of Aftab Poonawala, who is accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces, for 14 days till January 6. The court also allowed to obtain the voice sample of the accused and it would be done on December 26.

The judicial custody of Poonawala, who was produced before the court through video conference, was extended by Metropolitan Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore. However, Poonawala’s advocate M.H. Khan objected to the Delhi Police application in the court on obtaining voice sample. But the court maintained that for fair investigation, permission for voice sampling is allowed.

This came a day after Poonawala had withdrawn the bail application filed by his lawyer in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Vrinda Kumari. He told the court that the bail application was filed by his lawyer due to some ‘miscommunication’.

Poonawala, currently lodged in the Tihar Jail, is accused of strangulating Walkar on May 18. He had chopped her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a refrigerator. Over a period of three months, he dumped the body parts at different locations across the city. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on November 11.
