Delhi Congress campaign for senior citizens

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Congress on Sunday launched “Shrawan Kumar Aapke Dwar”, a door-to-door campaign aimed at the welfare of senior citizens.

A function will be organised on the first Saturday of every month to celebrate the birthdays of senior citizens across the 70 Assembly segments in the Capital.

“The intent is to make senior citizens feel wanted and that they are not alone. Our workers will be there to fill the gap, in addition to keeping in regular touch with them and address concerns related to their welfare,” said PCC President Ajay Maken.

The programme was launched with Mr. Maken visiting the residence of 75-year-old Keshoram at New Delhi constituency.

The party also released a pamphlet on safety of senior citizens, including some Do’s and Don’ts.

Organised by New Delhi District Congress Committee president Neeraj Basoya at Nehru Road near Defence Colony, many senior citizens residing in the area participated in the programme, the party claimed in a statement.
