A day after he asked Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to allocate Rs. 800 crore in power subsidy in the Delhi Budget, the State unit chief Satish Upadhyay welcomed the budget presented in Parliament on Friday and claimed it was meant for the welfare of all sections.

“The Delhi Budget has taken special care of four major issues of the city - power, water, unauthorised colonies and security of women besides health, education and transport. The budget of Rs. 36,766 crore will provide major relief in all the sectors because there is no proposal for any new tax,” said Mr. Upadhyay.

He said that it proposes relief to the lower and middle income group people suffering from the burden of hefty power bills.

“The government has taken the development of unauthorised colonies of Delhi as a big challenge and has decided that development works in these colonies be implemented in a time- bound manner,” he added.

“A very good budget”

Senior Delhi BJP leader and former Finance Minister Jagdish Mukhi also hailed the announcements. “It is a very good budget and the highlight is that there is no new tax”.

He said with reduction of service charge in the power sector, the budget has fulfilled one of the promises the BJP made to power consumers. With the removal of pension cap for senior citizens, the senior BJP leader said, over 40,000 more people in this category will be benefited.
