October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - GURGAON:

A day after a young fashion design student fell unconscious at the American EDM artist Skrillex’s concert in Leisure Valley here and died on her way to the hospital, the Gurgaon Police said that the woman was probably on diet. No FIR has been registered in connection to the death so far. The police are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death.

“The deceased’s father, Ashok Arora, told us that his daughter, Aanchal, was on a diet to lose weight. It is, therefore, suspected that she could have been on an empty stomach for a long time. Her father also told us that she had come to the concert with her friends and had sought their permission in this regard,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deepak Saharan. Aanchal, a resident of Pitampura, developed medical complications during the event and collapsed, said the police. “She was rushed to Max Hospital in an ambulance provided by the show organisers where she was declared brought dead. After post-mortem, her viscera were preserved by the doctor and the cause of death will be opined after the results are obtained from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory. The report is expected tomorrow [on Wednesday],” said Mr. Saharan.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated proceedings in the matter under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code. However, a case has been registered against the organisers of the event under the Punjab Excise Act for serving liquor to the underage guests at the venue. The FIR was lodged following a complaint from the Excise Department that liquor was being served to people below 25 years of age at the venue.

One underage guest was also detained by the police at the venue for being served liquor. Permission had been sought for 6,500 people, but around 8,000-10,000 people had gathered at the venue, said Mr. Saharan.

When contacted, the organisers refused to comment on the allegations of underage drinking and the number of guests saying that they were investigating the matter.
