Dead murder convict turns out to be alive

July 19, 2014 09:34 am | Updated 09:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In a strange case, a murder convict who was declared dead by the Ghaziabad Police is now suspected to be alive. The Delhi High Court on Friday issued fresh non-bailable warrants and directed the police forces of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to continue their investigation and trace the man who had jumped bail.

The Ghaziabad Police had stated earlier that Rajvir Singh’s decomposed body was found at Gang Nahar near Muradnagar and this had almost led to a closure of criminal proceedings against him. Rajvir had filed an appeal in the High Court against the sentence handed down to him, but he stopped appearing in the Court after getting bail.

In its status report submitted to the High Court last year, the Ghaziabad Police had claimed that Rajvir was dead and his relatives had turned up at the police station and claimed his body.

However, Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh, who appeared before a Division Bench on Friday on the Court’s direction, informed that investigations had revealed that fingerprints of a different body were obtained to show that Rajvir had died.

A police constable has been placed under suspension in this connection and disciplinary action initiated against him.
