The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday said that they have rescued a minor who was allegedly forced to work as a domestic help from the Capital’s Rajouri Garden.
Missing for two years
“The girl has been missing from Jharkhand for the past two years. A missing FIR was also registered. Her parents complained that their daughter [15] was held captive. They said that she was working as a domestic help,” DCW said in a statement.
“The girl said that she was placed in the house two years back and did not receive any payment from her employer. She also said that she was forced to work at another house in Mohan Nagar,” the statement added.
The commission stated that a complaint has been registered and she is kept in a shelter home, DCW said in a statement.
“The Child Welfare Committee is verifying the age of the victim. It has directed the investigating officers to take action against the accused person,” the DCW said. However, the DCW said the employer alleged that he had paid ₹1 lakh to the placement agency. “He was unable to produce papers in this context and did not have any documents related to the agency,” the DCW added.
“Sections under Bonded Labour Act and ITPA Act should be added to the FIR. and actions must be taken against the culprits. Repeatedly girls are being trafficked from Jharkhand to Delhi. Trafficking rackets run by placement agencies should be busted and steps must be taken to ensure that this crime ends,” said Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the DCW.
