The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday issued notices to the Registrar of Jawaharlal Nehru University after several students lodged a complaint with the commission over the university’s inaction towards the suspension of the professor accused of sexual harassment.
The panel in its letter to the university registrar wrote, “What safeguards have been taken to ensure the safety and security of the complainants? Whether the present complaint is being looked into by the Internal Complaints Committee? Please provide the composition of the ICC as well as the action taken by the committee in the matter till now.”
The commission also sought details of previous complaints of sexual harassment against the accused professor, if any.
“The present complaints appear to display a pattern of sexual assault at workplace. Hence, we recommend swift action in the matter and ensuring that the complainants are able to pursue their studies as well as their complaints in a free and fearless environment” read the letter to the university. The DCW also issued a notice to the SHO of the Vasant Kunj police station where the FIR has been lodged.
