Criminal wanted in constable’s murder killed in encounter in Delhi

The accused, identified as Feroz alias Fauji, was intercepted by a Special Cell team when he was going on his motorcycle towards Loni in Ghaziabad.

A 28-year-old man, who allegedly shot dead a Delhi Police constable in North-East Delhi last month, was killed in an encounter with the Special Cell on Tuesday morning.

The encounter took place at Sonia Vihar around 5.30 a.m. The accused, identified as Feroz alias Fauji, was intercepted by a Special Cell team when he was going on his motorcycle towards Loni in Ghaziabad.

“When we asked him to surrender, he started firing at us. A shot fired by him hit one of the inspectors, who was wearing a bullet-proof jacket, and another shot hit a police jeep. The police team then fired in self-defence and the accused sustained bullet injuries. He was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said a Special Cell officer.

“A weapon was recovered from his possession,” the officer added.

The police had been chasing Feroz who was wanted for the murder of Constable Shivraj Tomar in Shahdara on July 14. Tomar was on his way to the Jaffrabad police station when he saw Fauji and his accomplice on a bike without helmets and no registration plate. When Tomar tried to stop them, the driver sped away while the pillion rider, identified as Fauji shot him.
