The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to submit a report on action taken against over 50,000 industries operating in residential areas without requisite approvals in the Capital.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel observed that the apex pollution control board had provided “certain steps” taken and not a report on the action taken.

“The report received from CPCB shows that certain steps have been taken including constitution of a two-member committee. However, the report of the action taken has not been furnished. The CPCB may accordingly secure and furnish report from the said two-member committee within one month,” said the Bench in its order dated November 13.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a news report, the green panel had earlier directed the three municipal corporations, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and Delhi Development Authority to assist the panel.

Further, the committee was directed to submit its report to the monitoring committee constituted by the NGT, comprising former Delhi Chief Secretary Shailja Chandra and former NGT expert member Bikram Singh Sajwan.
