Cousins abducted, beaten up over debt

A 35-year-old man and his 27-year-old cousin were allegedly abducted and beaten up by a few men for two days in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar over non-payment of debt, the police said on Saturday.

The police said they have have registered a case and begun an investigation.

The victim, identified as Shahnawaz, a resident of Savitri Nagar and a driver by profession, alleged that he and cousin Saleem were picked up by five men on the evening of January 8 and forced into a car. He said the accused took the two to an accommodation in Sangam Vihar.

“Two of them were Deepak and Rinku from whom I had borrowed ₹30,000. They asked me to return the amount, but I told them I did have money at the time. They punched us and thrashed us with sticks and belt,” Shahnawaz alleged.

The accused allegedly dropped the cousins back on the night of Thursday and victim Shahnawaz approached the police the following day.

The police said that an investigation is currently under way.
