A couple allegedly fought with the traffic police and abused them when they were asked to step out of their car for the alcometer test.
The husband was found to be drunk and was eventually arrested for misbehaving with the police.
The incident happened on the night of May 24, when Harikesh, his wife, their child and their parents were crossing Connaught Place to go to Mayur Vihar.
Regular checking
As a part of a regular checking, traffic policemen asked them to stop their car so they could ascertain whether the driver was drunk. Instead of cooperating with Assistant Sub-Inspector Shrinath Chaubey and two constables, Harikesh and his wife allegedly started abusing them and threatened them with dire consequences.
Cops called ‘thieves’
“The alcohol level in the man’s body was found to be 58mg/100 ml as opposed to the permissible limit of 30mg/100 ml. When we started to challan him, he and his wife started abusing us and called us thieves,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, the wife claimed to be a member of the State women’s commission. “She also slapped one of the policemen and tore his uniform,” alleged the officer.
Call for help
The traffic police then called the Barakhamba police station for help, after which the husband was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail.
“We let the woman go because it was night time. She went on to file a bail application for her husband, which was rejected,” said the officer.
