A head constable was suspended after he was accused of demanding money in exchange for running a factory in Shahdara’s Vishwas Nagar. The matter is under investigation, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said head constable Rajveer has been suspended pending inquiry and the role of a sub-inspector-level officer is also being probed. Disciplinary action was taken after a video of the incident surfaced.

Sources said the officer had visited a factory in Vishwas Nagar on Monday afternoon and allegedly told the owner Kunal Singh that he will either have to shut the factory or pay him ₹1 lakh to keep operating because ‘illegal activities’ were taking place in the premises. The owner allegedly told the officer that he has a licence to run the factory and there was nothing illegal going on. However, the officer insisted on paying the money.

The owner who lives with his family on the first floor, above the factory, called his landlord who made a video of the incident. In the video, another officer can be seen. Ms. Yadav said the other officer came later but his role is also being probed.
