Far from the madding crowd

Heading to the hills with a group of friends for a week-long summer camp could turn out to be a worthwhile experience. It can encourage children to explore the wonder of camping in the midst of Nature and try their hand at adventure activities like rock climbing, river rafting and trekking. The more adventurous ones can even explore the Himalayas and go on a five-day trek to offbeat locations with experienced guides and porters for a unique experience. Camping under the stars and having simple meals while indulging in a range of activities may not only fuel creativity, but also turn out to be a good break from the mundane.

Theatre Workshops

Theatre can do wonders to boost self-confidence. It can also help one to be more articulate and be part of a team that presents a production at the end of the summer that one can invite friends and family to watch. More serious actors can even use it as a platform to land roles in films, commercials or actually transform himself or herself for a month into the character that one is playing. Hours spent at rehearsals can be a good platform to make new friends and read a lot many scripts. One can learn clowning as well at the Shri Ram Centre. Workshops are available in Hindi and in English.

Learn a sport

While camps to learn cricket, swimming, football or a racquet sport are on offer in almost every neighbourhood, kids can try their hand at learning mixed martial arts, ice-skating or put themselves through endurance tests and classes at gyms that help with fitness and boost their performance in the sport they play regularly. Children can even explore activities that combine dance, yoga and climbing at the Delhi Rock to have a workout that is fun and different.

Museums

Museums in the city have ample activities planned for children this summer that go beyond visiting the usual exhibits on display. The workshops are interactive, fun and deal with a diverse range of subjects. From learning an ancient script at the National Museum to painting, puppetry, and performance art workshops at the National Gallery of Modern Art, the museums in the city have a range of activities to engage children.

Library

Learn a language

You never know when you may have to shift to a different country to study, work or even for an extended holiday. Why not start early and learn a language of your choice? From private tutors to online courses, the list is endless depending on the level you want to achieve.

The Alliance Francaise de Delhi, the Goethe Institut at Max Mueller Bhavan and The Institute of Spanish Studies are organising short-term courses for children for the summer break.

Know your city better

Delhi By Foot is organising a seven-day workshop, Kaafila-e-Dilli. It will take children on a journey to discover hidden treasures in the city in order to develop an understanding of history of the city and relate it to the context of the culture that affect us today.

Fun at the mall

Air conditioned malls are not just meant for shopping and eating. They are soon turning into hubs of activities for kids to indulge in some summer fun. DLF Place in Saket is offering a platform Summer Safari, where children can become part of a reading club, indulge in art and craft, learn to make collage or origami with workshops conducted by Colour Maths, take chef lessons or participate in an unusual Squap championship, a racket game.
