Holi has always had another significance besides its religious significance – heralding summer. But Friday's maximum temperatures which settled at 25 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal for this time of the year, and the minimum temperature recorded at 11.8 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below the norm, proved the fickleness of the weather.
The city woke up on Thursday morning to a bright and sunny albeit windy Holi. The breeze was definitely on the colder side, forcing some to hurry back indoors early in the evening. The maximum temperature was 27.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum 12.7 degrees Celsius.
The nippy weather however, has taken the average citizen by surprise. “Holi always implies summer is here, it is like clockwork, year after year. This time, however, the evenings are nippy, almost cold and strangely so,” said Sonali, a college student.
According to the India Metrological Department, the weather on Holi was normal with the minimum temperature just one degree Celsius below the norm for this time of the year.
“Saturday may have maximum temperatures of 27 degrees and a minimum of 10 degrees, to be followed by a maximum of 28 degrees and a minimum of 10 degrees on Sunday,” said the Met official.
Monday might get hotter with a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 11 degrees Celsius. The temperature is expected to oscillate between 32 degrees and 12 degrees on Tuesday.
