A district consumer disputes redressal forum here has dismissed a complaint seeking compensation of over ₹1 lakh from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation after the former failed to provide “evidence” to substantiate his claims.
The complainant had alleged that on a journey to Shirdi from New Delhi, the water bottle provided by the IRCTC to the complainant and his family, “had some fungus floating inside the bottle.”
The complainant alleged that the second bottle provided by the IRCTC also had “foreign elements” inside the bottle and sought compensation on account of “deficiency in services.”
The IRCTC, while refuting the allegations, claimed that the Railway Ministry had “set up an automatic, modern plant that involves eight purification process capable of yielding water quality” that conforms to requisite norms.
Dismissing the complaint, the consumer panel said: “Complainant has not filed any evidence on record to show that he had lodged any complaint in the train or at the railway station.”
The consumer panel noted: “Complainant has not filed any medical papers to show that after drinking the water he became sick. The complainant has also not produced the bottle in question during the course of the proceedings.”
