A Delhi Police constable allegedly shot himself in the head with his service revolver at central Delhi’s Daryaganj police station on Wednesday evening.
No suicide note
Preliminary investigations have revealed that 29-year-old Amit Khokhar was depressed as he was suffering from an ailment.
However, the police are probing other angles as well, including work-related issues. No suicide note has been recovered so far.
According to the police, Khokhar was posted at the same police station where the alleged suicide took place.
The constable was on duty at a church on Wednesday. He returned to the barrack and allegedly shot himself.
“The constable shot himself with his service revolver around 5 p.m. The gunshot alarmed those present at the police station. They took him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” said a police officer.
Inquest proceedings
The police have informed Khokhar’s family, and are questioning them and his colleagues. Inquest proceedings have been initiated in the matter.
A resident of Halpur village in Baghpat, Khokhar had joined the Delhi Police in 2009.
