Congress slams govt. for not renewing licence

The Delhi Congress has condemned the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) Delhi government’s move not to renew the licence of Grameen Seva vehicles operating in the Capital.

Reiterating that the Congress government in Delhi had introduced 6,158 vehicles under the Grameen Seva service in 2010, to address the issue of last-mile connectivity, Shadow Committee members Ishrat Jehan and Aman Panwar said instead of not renewing the permits of such vehicles, the government should take corrective measures as it was a question of the livelihood of poor people.

“The scheme was initiated to facilitate last-mile connectivity in rural areas, unauthorised colonies, and JJ clusters up to the limit of inner ring road. They provide an important and essential service to local residents,” said Mr. Panwar.

“Both the drivers of these vehicles and the residents of these areas are now being harassed by the AAP government, which is not renewing their permits and is demanding exorbitant charges for renewal,” he said.
