On the second day of its Jansangharsh Yatra against corruption and misgovernance in Delhi, the BJP brought to the fore former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari who accused the Congress Governments at the Centre and in Delhi of awarding those involved in corruption and putting behind bars those who tried to expose it.
Mr. Koshiary, who addressed a public meeting at Karawal Nagar Road in Nehru Vihar along with Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta, claimed that there is an undeclared Emergency in the country. “The common man is wary of telling the truth because he is apprehensive of being sent to jail for it. The whistle-blowers are being punished,” he said.
The former Chief Minister, who the BJP also wants to pull the votes of the large Uttarakhand population in Delhi in the run up to the municipal polls, also charged that the Centre was not keen on bringing a strong Lokpal Bill or getting it passed in Parliament. “On this Bill, all the suggestions given by our party have been rejected outright,” he said.
Assuring that the BJP was in favour of a strong Lokpal Bill, he said the party will make every effort to bring it. Similarly, he said, the Government had also blocked the Women's Reservation Bill.
Mr. Gupta for his part assured that the BJP would focus on providing good governance. On coming to power it would provide relief and support to the people living in unauthorised colonies, slums and resettlement colonies. “All the poor and helpless people will be provided houses and employment, and price rise and corruption will be eradicated,” he said.
