Confusion over Andhra Board marks at DU colleges

June 29, 2019 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - new delhi

Students from Andhra Pradesh applying to colleges of Delhi University were left shocked on Friday as colleges pegged their marks — converted from a grade point average — lower than what they expected.

This year, the Board of Intermediate Education of Andhra Pradesh, issued CGPAs out of 10 points instead of marks out of 100.

While the marksheet issued by the Board states that to convert the CGPA, the points are to be multiplied by 10, colleges such as Hansraj and Hindu were multiplying it by 9.6.

“Even if you get 10 out of 10 it will count as 96%,” said Vamsi, a second-year student helping her friend Bhaskar seek admission at Hansraj. While Bhaskar scored 9.65 in Class XII and qualifies for BA History at the college, as per the State board prescribed conversion, he does not qualify going by the college’s own conversion.

Prathyush Gunda, vice-president of AIKYATHA, a group assisting students from Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, said he had been getting calls about the issue throughout the day.

A total of 564 students from the State Board have applied to DU. Dean of Student Welfare, Rajeev Gupta said that officials were going over the guidelines to resolve the problem.

He said that directions would be issued to colleges so that students do not face further issues.
