October 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai, on Friday, was presented a report by a special committee that was constituted to suggest welfare measures, including those related to working conditions of domestic workers.

Headed by Deputy Assembly Speaker Bandana Kumari, the committee has members from the International Labour Organization, Civil Society and NGOs, and officers from the Labour Department.

“The committee has recommended that the government take a considered decision for immediately formulating rules and regulations for domestic workers, which contain exhaustive provisions for working conditions, wages, and measures to improve social security measures and punitive measures for defaulting employers,” the government said in a statement.

The committee has suggested some significant social security and welfare measures for domestic workers, which include constitution of a State Social Security Board for domestic and other workers under the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008, to initiate the process of enactment of a comprehensive legislation.
