Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday said power plants in the NCR were low on coal stocks, down to just one or two days’ worth from the usual two weeks’ stock. The Minister said he had written to Union Minister for Coal and Railways on May 17, asking him to intervene. Mr. Jain said he has, however, not received a reply from the Union Minister.

In his letter, Mr. Jain said the Dadri plant in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and the Badarpur plant in Delhi were down to coal stocks of one or two days. He added that the “coal shortage” was due to lack of transportation wagons or rakes with the Indian Railways.

‘No reply’

Speaking to the media on Friday, Mr. Jain said he had not received a reply from the Union Minister.

“If there is any problem in any of the plants, there will be a blackout...This is a man-made disaster in the making,” he said.
