Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday approved the setting up of seven decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs) in north Delhi’s Burari. The government is planning similar facilities for the entire city.
25 colonies
According to the government, these seven decentralised STPs will cover sewer lines for 25 colonies of the area. An official said after these decentralised STPs are set up, Burari will become the first Assembly constituency where all unauthorised colonies will have sewer lines.
The Chief Minister has directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to come up with a plan for the entire city at the earliest. The move came as Mr. Kejriwal, who is also the Chairman of the DJB, held a meeting with officials on setting up decentralised STPs.
Sewage water
“The seven decentralised STPs will treat a total of 14.5 million litres per day [MLD] of sewage water, which will be used for several purposes like water body recharge, irrigation, etc.,” the Delhi government said in a statement.
‘Start work soon’
It also stated Mr. Kejriwal also asked officials incharge of setting up these decentralised SPTs to start the work as soon as possible.
On September 5, Mr. Kejriwal had asked the DJB to come with a road map for decentralised STPs all over Delhi. The government said these decentralised STPs will not only solve the crisis faced due to sewage but also produce huge amount of recycled water.
Special focus
The government has planned decentralised STPs in all Delhi colonies and institutions with a special focus on unauthorised areas, said an official.
