The BJP Opposition on Monday accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of “misusing government machinery” by sending letters addressed to the parents of children studying in government schools for “political gain”.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari accused Mr. Kejriwal of “misusing government data” for private purposes that, he said, was “a crime” and would be raised by the BJP before the Election Commission.

‘Complaint filed’

“The Delhi Parents’ Association has started opposing the letter written in the name of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and sent to the government schools of Delhi. A complaint has been filed in the Election Commission in this regard,” Mr. Tiwari said at a press conference here.

“The Delhi government is misusing the government machinery for political gain and playing with the future of students... The letter itself is a bundle of lies. Through this letter, he is trying to gain politically by misleading the parents and the children. No political party can use the data of students for its political gains,” Mr. Tiwari said.

The North-East Delhi MP also accused Mr. Kejriwal of “failing to fulfil the promises” made by AAP in its manifesto, arguing that “tall claims” had been made about making improvements, but the reality was that the Delhi government “has not taken any step” to make improvement in the field of education in Delhi.

He further said that Mr. Kejriwal had promised to open 500 new schools and 20 colleges, in his manifesto, but not “a single” one has been opened.

“Classrooms have been constructed in some schools, but teachers have not been appointed for the classrooms and 66% failed students have not been re-admitted in the classes. The BJP will go to the Election Commission on the issue of making political gains by using the data illegally and demand that the data collected illegally should be seized and AAP be derecognised,” Mr. Tiwari further said.
