With Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to tackle air pollution came into force in Delhi on Tuesday, the city’s municipal corporations are taking several steps to keep air quality in check.
Mechanical road sweeping has been intensified and truck-mounted water sprinklers have been deployed across the city to keep a check on dust, officials said. The civic bodies have also constituted night patrolling teams to check leaf burning, a significant contributor to poor air quality.
The SDMC said that it had deployed a total of 24 water sprinklers in its jurisdiction with one specifically deployed at Sector 2 of RK Puram where a Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station is functioning. The civic body had issued a total of 660 challans so far, amounting to ₹23.76 lakh, for violation of various SWM byelaws and construction and air pollution guidelines laid out by the NGT, officials said.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation said that it had deployed 128 water sprinklers and 18 mechanical sweepers.
In East Delhi Municipal Corporation, water sprinkling tankers, jetting machines and mechanical sweepers will be flagged off on Wednesday by area MPs and leaders of the civic body.
