Close to a decade after it was first mooted, the Capital, on Monday, got its own common mobility card which can be used by commuters to travel aboard both Delhi metro trains and State-run buses.

The ‘ONE’ card, which is essentially the rebranded Delhi Metro smart card with the tagline ‘One Delhi. One Ride’ with the logos of all three transport operators in the city — the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Transport Corporation and the Delhi government — was launched by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

Old cards still valid

The new card will be available for sale starting Tuesday at all metro stations and DTC pass counters. Existing metro smart cards will continue to stay valid but any new card or replacement will be through the ONE card, the government said in a statement. The newly designed cards have a background of a cubic grid in bright shades of red and yellow in addition to a circular unit with sketches of Metro trains, DTC buses, autorickshaws and Delhi’s monuments around it.

The launch took place at the DTC’s Rajghat Depot in the presence of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Mangu Singh, Commissioner of Transport Varsha Joshi, DTC MD Manoj Kumar, State Dialogue and Development Commission vice-chairperson Jasmin Shah and other senior officials from the Transport Department.

“For a majority of the people to switch over to public transport, they need to see and experience Delhi’s metro and buses in the same light — as part of a well-integrated and seamless public transport system,” Mr. Gahlot said at the launch.

“With the launch of common mobility card in August this year, extending the 10% discount of fares on usage of card in buses, and now the rebranding of the metro card as ONE card, we wish to tell the people of Delhi that their government is committed to providing them a seamless, high-quality travel experience in Delhi’s public transport system,” the Minister said further.

Mr. Gahlot said the Delhi government also planned to launch an app through which commuters could plan multi-modal trips.
