Thousands of worshippers, mainly women, paid obeisance to the setting sun with ‘arghya’ along Yamuna bank on Chhath Puja on Tuesday.

“Heartiest wishes to all of you on Chhath Puja,” tweeted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Hindi.

His deputy Manish Sisodia, other Ministers, party leaders and workers also visited ghats to take stock of arrangements during the progression of the festival and to greet people. State BJP chief Manoj Tiwari also visited worshippers at Sonia Vihar ghat with other party leaders and workers.

In a related development, Youth Congress activists staged a protest near Mr. Tiwari’s residence over his alleged remark against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi while campaigning in Chhattisgarh recently.

They sought his apology and accused him of politicising the festival. They also burnt an effigy of Mr. Tiwari.
