CEO for “fair opportunities” on Delhi Metro

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on the Delhi Metro seem to have caught the attention of Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar, who directed the transport agency to provide “fair opportunities” to all political parties and candidates to advertise on paid commercial sites.

At a meeting on political advertisement on commercial and paid sites held by Delhi Metro, Mr. Kumar directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to provide fair opportunities to the various political parties and candidates while providing spaces for political advertisement on paid and commercial sites inside and outside the metro stations.

The DMRC, however, said fair opportunity was being granted to all recognised political parties so far as allocation of space for advertisement was concerned.

Mr. Kumar also instructed the DMRC to issue necessary directions to the contractor of feeder buses to remove political advertisement displayed on the vehicles immediately.

The advertisements, he said, violate both the terms and conditions of the agreement made between the DMRC and bus operators, and also amounts to violation of the model code of conduct.
