With the Supreme Court cancelling results of the May 3 All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) following large-scale irregularities, the future of over six lakh candidates is now in limbo. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which has been asked to conduct the examination within four weeks, held a high-level meeting in the department on Monday evening. While officials in the department refused to divulge details of the meeting, sources said that the most of the examination centres will be the same barring those from which complaints of cheating were received. “Since we have to do all the preparations in one month, we cannot change all the exam centres,” a source said.
In the normal course, CBSE takes about two months to prepare for examinations like AIPMT and AIEEE. As per the court order, they will have to declare the results before August 1, which leaves them with around two months for both conducting the examination and declaring the results.
Aspirants are however relieved after the Supreme Court order as they think they will now have a fair chance of getting a seat in a medical college. Adeeba Ahmed, one of the petitioners, said: “It’s a great decision by the Supreme Court because if the result was not cancelled, people who have cheated in the examination would have got a medical seat and nobody want such cheats to become doctors right? Even if we have to go through the examination all over again it is not a hassle because at least this time we can be sure that it will be conducted in a fair way.”
Anirudh Sharma, another AIPMT aspirant said: “I will have to sit for the entrance test again but I don’t mind it. At least I can be sure that the result will be fair and no one writing the examination in an unfair manner will get a seat.”
