Fatima Nafees, the mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, lead a protest outside the CBI headquarters in Delhi on Friday.
She urged the investigation agency to show progress in the case in next court hearing. A number of students from JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia, and several other organisations attended the protest.
Ms. Nafees said: “The CBI is trying to file a closure report and I appeal to all concerned citizens to put pressure on the CBI to investigate the case thoroughly and explore all possible angles before they consider closing the case.” The protesters raised the question that almost two years after Najeeb’s disappearance, the students accused of allegedly attacking him the night before have not been questioned and are roaming around. They alleged that the investigating agencies have made no headway. The CBI on July 12 told the Delhi High Court that till date its probe into the missing case has not found any evidence to show any crime being committed and that it was seriously considering filing a closure report.
Najeeb had gone missing from the JNU’s Mahi-Mandvi hostel on October 15, 2016, following a scuffle with some other students, allegedly affiliated to the ABVP, on October 14, 2016. The CBI had said it did not find any material to arrest or take coercive action against the nine students who are suspected by Najeeb’s family of being behind his disappearance.
