April 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In an important order, a Sessions court here has quashed the summoning of a man in a criminal defamation case filed by steel magnate Bhushan Steel, observing that the act of the petitioner (alleged defamer) was ‘an act as of a whistle blower’ for public good.

A Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) had summoned Jai Kishan Bansal on a defamation complaint filed by the company. He had challenged the MM order in the Sessions court.

The company alleged that Jai Kishan Bansal had harmed its reputation by writing letters to various Central Government authorities, alleging evasion of excise duty.

Mr. Bansal had also alleged that on the information given by him a raid was conducted at the company and its branches and three show cause notices for Rs. 45 crore were issued and a penalty of Rs. 45 crore was imposed on it.
