The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered a case on a complaint lodged by the Principal of Mata Sundri College for Women accusing Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, of having secured admission for his daughter on a forged higher senior secondary school certificate.
The case has been registered at the Indraprastha Estate police station under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. In view of the allegations, Mr. Marwah on Tuesday morning communicated to the Chief Minister that he would be resigning from the Parliamentary Secretary post.
In the complaint to the police, officiating college principal Dr. Kawar Jit Kaur had sought registration of a case against the Congress MLA from Jangpura for allegedly getting his daughter enrolled on the basis of a forged higher senior secondary certificate purportedly issued by the Madhya Pradesh State Open School, Bhopal, in 2010.
The principal said Mr. Marwah had sent a letter to the college chairman on July 5, 2011, which was accompanied by the certificate showing that his daughter had obtained 255 marks out of 500 in her examination. The letter was accompanied by the admission form, along with a migration certificate and a migration certificate-cum-transfer certificate. “A hand-written application signed by Jasmine Kaur Marwah was also delivered on July 12, 2011, along with the aforesaid documents,'' said the complainant.
On the basis of the documents, admission was granted to Mr. Marwah's daughter on July 12 last year. The recent media reports highlighting cases of fake certificates and an anonymous phone call stating that the certificate of Mr. Marwah's daughter was forged purportedly led the principal to cross-check the genuineness of the certificate.
‘Confirmed'
According to the complaint, the principal received a reply from the Madhya Pradesh State Open School stating that Mr. Marwah's daughter had neither attended classes nor the purported certificate had been issued in her name. “It is apparent that the accused not only forged the documents, but also forged the seal of the Additional Director, Examinations, of the Madhya Pradesh State Open School, Bhopal,” said the complaint, seeking action in accordance with law.
