Three days after the murder of a cab driver in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur on Sunday, the Delhi Police failed to make headway in the case.

On Tuesday, Umesh Sharma’s family members accused the police of inaction in the case.

His wife, Geeta Sharma, said: “We are poor and have no connection. Each time I call the investigating officer, he says they will arrest the killer. But when will they do it? I have three children and how will I pay for the cab’s EMI? The killers have destroyed my entire world.”

However, an officer said, “We have rounded up more than 20 suspects in the case and are investigating to identify the accused. The sole eyewitness in the case was drunk and unable to identify the accused.”

On Sunday morning, 40-year-old Umesh was shot dead by three men in a car after the side mirrors of the two vehicles allegedly brushed past each other in Kotla Mubarakpur market. The victim, who was shot in the chest, died on the spot.

Sole earner

The victim’s family members are worried about the future of his children as he was the sole breadwinner. “Our financial status does not allow us to support the family. We demand strict action against the killers,” said Umesh’s cousin Surender Sharma.
